Vimy Ridge
The Battle of Vimy Ridge was a key event in Canada's development as a nation. Vimy Ridge became a significant symbol for Canadians and a source of national pride. Canadian soldiers trained hard for two months with the help of Sir Arthur Currie. Canadian military leaders made sure the soldiers knew the terrain as well as the Germans did. The Canadians fought through many trenches until they reached the top, four days later and the troops had captured all of Vimy Ridge. Overall, 3,598 Canadians died and 7,004 were wounded in the Battle of Vimy Ridge. Canadian soldiers captured more prisoners than any other country since the beginning of the war.
