

Early Years
Sir Arthur Currie was born on December 5th, 1875 near Strathroy, Ontario. He went to the University of Toronto before moving to British Columbia in 1894. For five years, Sir Arthur Currie taught at public schools in Sidney and Victoria. On May 6th, 1897 Sir Arthur Currie joined the 5th Regiment, Canadian Garrison Artillery as a gunner and in1900, he was offered an officer's commission. Unfortunately, Sir Arthur Currie had many financial problems and could not pay to have this job due to the expenssive commision it required for uniforms and donations. In 1902, Currie was promoted to Captain and eventually to Major in 1906. At this time, Currie was also engaged to be married to Lucy Chaworth-Musters.
